My CNC router has a vacuum table to hold larger parts but some times I have to cut small letters and parts that the vacuum table will not hold down. Up until now, I’ve resorted to using contact adhesive to hold down the substrate to a scrap piece of material. The issue with this is that I have to clean the contact adhesive off the parts after they’re cut and it’s a pain in the neck. I’d like for find rolls of adhesive sheets that are at least 10″ wide. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the question. 3M™ Double Coated Paper Tape 401M and 3M™ Double Coated Paper Tape 410M are typically our first choices for temporary fixturing in machining. The main differences between the two are that 401M has is thicker (9 mils vs 6 mils) and has a slightly higher short term temperature resistance (200°F/93°C vs 180°F/82°C) than 410M.
Depending on your substrates and conditions, other tapes could be options. You could also look at 3M™ Removable Repositionable Double Coated Tape 9425HT or 3M™ Double Coated Tape 94215. Please leave a comment if you have follow-up questions.
