Require a solution for bonding Al fins to Al tubes which will not impede heat transfer efficiency and which will be robust over a long duty cycle of environmental temperature and humidity and dry/wet cycles.
require this to be Solvent/VOC free.
Current product is Royal 15012 Silaprene Adhesive. This product will become non-useable due to its solvent base and local manufacturing location environmental regulatory copliance issues. Extremely high volume application. Requires fast-cure characteristics. Need alternative to current product ASAP for application testing .
Thank you
Thanks for the question. Regulatory rules vary significantly from one location to the next and also tend to change frequently. It is important to understand your local definition of “low VOC” or “VOC free” and compare that to product attributes. While I can’t advise you on local regulatory issues, you can find regulatory information on 3M products including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Regulatory Data Sheets (RDS), RoHS, REACH Information, Article Info Sheets (AIS), and Article Info Letters (AIL) at http://3m.com/regs
Pressure sensitive adhesives (i.e. tapes) may give you some benefit in this application because they do not “cure” in the same way that liquid adhesives cure. PSA’s are cured in the manufacturing plant and then bond to the substrate by pressure. Depending on your local regulations, this may help with your VOC requirements. PSA’s also form bonds quickly because they do not need to cure in the application. You can often get practical handing strength immediately after pressing down a PSA. This is typically one of the primary process benefits for choosing a PSA over a liquid adhesive.
3M™ Thermally Conductive Adhesive Transfer Tapes are a family of PSAs designed to provide a preferential heat-transfer path between heat-generating components and heat sinks or other cooling devices (e.g., fans, heat spreaders or heat pipes). Specific technical details can be found on the Technical Data Sheet:
There are also thermally conductive two-part epoxies that you could consider if you want an alternative liquid adhesive. Here are some additional details on 3M’s thermal management products:
