3M™ VHB™ Tapes do offer protection from galvanic corrosion in most cases. Galvanic corrosion is caused when two different types of metal are close to each other and connected via water (or some other electrolytic solution). This is most often seen when metals are in contact and exposed to outdoor conditions like condensing humidity or rain. In a case like this, 3M™ VHB™ Tape can physically separate the two metals so that the moisture cannot bridge the gap and electrically connect them.
Other non-adhesive barriers can also be used for this, but they still require a way to attach the metals. Unfortunately, this often results in a metal fastener being used which creates a conductive bridge that bypasses the barrier leading to galvanic corrosion.
If designed properly, 3M™ VHB™ Tape can replace mechanical fasteners while at the same time bonding the metals together. If you have other specific design questions, I’d be happy to respond to the in the comments below.
