What is the best method to method to patch holes in polyethylene mesh pool cover? I have holes in a pool cover from dogs running across and wear on the pool coping. I would like to patch and reinforce the areas with polyethylene mesh. Looking for recommendations on products and methods to achieve this.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the question, PLynch.
Polyethylene (PE) is a low surface energy (LSE) substrate which means adhering to it can be tricky. Flexible PE is even more challenging because the adhesive itself needs to be flexible. Here are a few options to consider:
3M™ Hot Melt Adhesive 3748 – Hot melt adhesives will flow into the texture and remain flexible after cooling.
3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape 9472LE – Tapes may be an option depending on the specifics. The texture of the tarp may reduce contact area and strength of the bond.
Since pool covers are designed to roll up tightly, you’ll probably want to avoid using structural adhesives. However, if the patch material was more rigid or if this design did not require much flexibility, you could also look at DP8010 which is purpose-built for bonding to polyethylene and other polyolefins.
