Hello,
I am looking for the right adhesive…
I make block ice in stainless steel cans, the cans are filled with tap water and then this can goes into brine water.
that freezes up to -20 celcius.
the cans are welded but over time the saltwater eats up the welding and it starts leaking, i was thinking of also adding some kind of adhesive from the inside where the seem is .
what adhesive do you recommend?
Hi srsoupy,
There are several ways to approach this problem. If you are only looking for weld protection then testing 3M™ Marine Adhesive/Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV would be a good starting point as it is designed for above and below water use in marine environments (similar to your brine).
There is also the possibility of completely replacing the weld used to seal the cans with an adhesive. If this could work for you, a structural acrylic such as 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Metal Bonder Acrylic Adhesive DP8407NS Gray would be a good starting point for testing.
