I have a 3 inch long tear on the outside surface of my car door weatherstrip about 3 inches long.
Which adhesive would be best to seal or fill in this tear?
1. Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200
2. Black Weatherstrip Adhesive 08011.
It should set up and be ready to use – that is be able to close the car door in a few hours, and not be be sticky at all. Are there other adhesives or caulks better for this job?
Yeah this is good information i would like to say you that i was in searching for this kinda information and thinking to make a new thread for this thanks for this informative thread have a nice day.
Thanks for the question. The most robust way to fix a tear is to replace the entire weatherstrip. This can be a tricky process and is probably best done by a professional auto body shop.
If you did want to attempt a patch, I think you’ve identified a good place to start with 3M™ Black Weatherstrip Adhesive 08011. It has a work time of 1-5 minutes so that you can spread it on, but it takes 24 hours to cure. Compressing the weatherstrip after the adhesive starts to cure will reduce the final strength, so it would be best to leave it uncompressed for the full 24 hours.
